After catching her first wave at age 22, Canadian-born Trish Zimmer’s entire adult life has revolved around the ocean. Raising her daughter steps from Costa Rica’s white sand beaches, surfing daily, living simply and helping to run a surf camp inspired Trish to develop the idea of what would eventually become Salty Bird.
“There were basically no good surfing bathing suits available at any of the local surf shops. All the female surfers I knew had to improvise. I realized that this wasn’t just a problem in my town. It was a problem across the entire industry.”
In 2014, Trish moved to Bali to set up production. Sourcing warehouses and fabrics and working with experienced local seamstresses, Trish designed high-quality surf bikinis and one-piece surf swimsuits that stay strong, even with constant use. In addition to Salty Bird, Trish is the owner of Jackalope’s Surf Shop, co-owner of Zopilote surf camp, and still somehow finds plenty of time to paddle out.
